Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the Emmy-award winning hit reality show on ABC Television, came to the Queen City to surprise one lucky family with an extreme home makeover. This season's theme is "Heroes in the Community." With a goal to construct a new house in one week, local builder, American Heartland Homebuilder and local developer, JED Development joined forces to help the deserving family.

This was the second extreme homebuilding experience for American Heartland Homebuilder. In 2006, American Heartland set a show record by completing an Extreme Makeover home in 53 hours and 54 minutes.

"It was an honor to have been called by Extreme Makeover to participate in the show again," said Rick Merlini, CEO of American Heartland Homebuilder. "Charlotte has embraced this opportunity, especially Duke Energy and Stock Building Supply, who both have made significant contributions to make this build possible. To me, Charlotte is a city of second chances. I couldn't have helped this family without the support and hope from my good friend Ed Estridge of JED Development. With this build, Ed and I, along with thousands of other Charlotteans, will be able to provide a second chance for a family in need."

Duke Energy was a lead sponsor of the project and worked closely with the builder to incorporate energy efficient elements throughout the home.
