HICKORY, N.C. -- When a man's home improvement damaged his home, he turned to Action 9 for results. When Dan Champion retired five years ago, he wanted to get his mobile home in good shape. He spent $4,000 on laminate floor, but now it's soft and sinking in spots."I had to cut the bottom of the door off there so I could open the door after it swelled up," said Champion. He complained to the flooring maker, Armstrong. The company sent representatives to look at the floor. They said the particle board sub floor in Champion's mobile home was rotting from condensation building up between the two floors.Armstrong's representatives said the cause of the condensation was the plastic backing Champion put down under the laminate flooring. The plastic should have been used with concrete floors only.Champion said that's what the Lowe's Home Improvement store in Hickory sold him to put down with the flooring."They got the right kind of backing this would never have happened, I don't think. But they sold me this to put under it and it was the wrong stuff," said Champion. When Champion complained to Lowe's, he said Lowe's told him they would call him back. Champion said they never did.Action 9 contacted Lowe's headquarters and Armstrong industries. Together the companies decided to replace Champion's sub floor and install another new laminate floor at no cost to him.
