Andrea from Moorseville asks: Why do I lose my satellite tv signal during a storm.
Thanks for sending your email to Severe Weather Center 9. The reason you get a signal loss during a thunderstorm is because of what is called rainfade. When a strong thunderstorm passes over your house, it causes the signal from the satellite to either be scattered or even absorbed by the rain itself.A light rain won't cause this to happen because the droplets are fewer and smaller, but a big storm has larger drops and many more of them. The more drops that get in the way of the signal, the more likely you will experience rainfade. This is one of the most common complaints about satellite tv. Usually you just have to wait for the storm to pass you by.
