Johnny Lee Worthy, Jr.

Influential African-Americans In Our Community

Johnny L. Worthy, Jr. is the Business Skills Technology Center Trainer for the Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP) at the Urban League of Central Carolinas, Inc. Mr. Worthy’s guiding philosophy is “if you can control your mind, you can control your destiny because if you don’t someone else will.” He infuses his philosophy into the life skills, work ethic, job readiness and personal development training he provides through the UYEP program at the Urban League and in the community.

Mr. Worthy has worked for the Urban League of Central Carolinas, Inc. in Charlotte for seven years. In addition to providing on-site training, Mr. Worthy is very active in the greater community. He has provided training workshops for students at West Mecklenburg High, McClintock Middle, and Walter G. Byers Elementary schools. He has also facilitated workshops at the County Jail, Camp Green Prison, the McLeod Chemical Dependency Center, North Tryon Street JobLink Center, and Jacob’s Ladder just to name a few.

In addition to facilitating comprehensive training programs, Mr. Worthy is an accomplished public speaker having served as a guest motivational speaker for the Mayor’s summer Youth Employment Program.

Mr. Worthy received a bachelor’s in Business Administration from Livingston and he is a licensed minister presiding at the Word of Faith Community Church. Furthermore, Mr. Worthy is the owner of Worthy & Associates Consulting Group, an Auxiliary Probation Officer for the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, and a trained drug and alcohol substance specialist.

Mr. Worthy brings years of professional and community service experience to the Urban League of Central Carolinas. Raised in Chester, SC and now living in Rock Hill with his wife Cynthia, Mr. Worthy has three sons, Johnny, Jimmy and Jeremy.

It is with great pride and pleasure that the Urban League of Central Carolinas nominates Mr. Johnny Worthy, Jr. to be highlighted as one of the 20 Most influential African Americans in our community. He is one of our communities’ great-unsung and everyday heroes whose time in the spotlight is long overdue.
