Beatrice Thompson

Influential African-Americans In Our Community

For more than two decades, Ms. Beatrice Thompson has been part of television. Respected across the Carolinas as a journalist, talk show host and motivational speaker. Her 
skills as a motivational speaker and media trainer have been used by various regional and national professional organizations.

A native of Charlotte, NC, Ms. Thompson attended the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and later attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she majored in Radio, Television & Motion picture Broadcasting. She is currently known as an expert in motivational & media training.

Ms. Thompson worked in commercial television as a news reporter and anchor for the CBS and NBC affiliates in Charlotte the 28th largest television market in the nation. She was the first African-American woman to anchor a newscast in Charlotte -- "Good Morning Show With Jim Patterson" and "Top of the Day" on WBTV.

During her television news tenure, she covered education, government, health and consumer issues and politics in addition to hosting her own talk news programs. She currently is the News & Public Affairs Director for WBAV-FM (V101.9).

Ms. Thompson has received numerous national and regional awards for her work and community efforts: The Charlotte Area Association of Black Journalists Messenger Award, The American Heart Association Award for North Carolina, The National Bronze Award for Public Information.

Ms. Thompson also sits on several advisory boards to Universities and public institutions: Sickle Cell Anemia Association Board Member, South Carolina NAACP chapter of Spartanburg, Honorary Presidential Award, Roddey Foundation.

In her spare time Ms. Thompson enjoys spending time with her daughter, Jamila Omari Rasheed.
