Nettie Reeves, of Charlotte, has been nominated to receive the Black Heritage Award for outstanding and inspiring community work.With over 20 years of experience in fitness, wellness training and education, she has touched the lives of countless African-Americans -- men and women all over the country, but specifically in Charlotte. She has created a movement of health and fitness that’s catching on like wildfire with the motto: “The mind, not the mirror, is the judge.” While she conducts fitness classes, she also uses that time to give us words that compel us: that we can take charge not only of our health, but our lives.While giving empowerment, inspiration and hope, Reeves also teaches people to look outside themselves which are marks of a true community leader.Ms. Reeves, in her popularity and success, supports, encourages, inspires and showcases other African-American businesses, talents and charities, reminding us of how blessed we really are.Reeves has partnered with several high-profile companies and offers classes at centers such as Phillip O’Berry, that appeal to people of all cultures, ages and fitness levels.She received the 2007 Hoodie Award for outstanding community service and the 2008 Pride Award for Healthcare Services.
