Kessler Wins WBA Super Middleweight Title

Saturday, June 21, 2008

(Sports Network) - Mikkel Kessler dominated a 12-round affair with the previously unbeaten Dimitri Sartison, regaining the vacant WBA super middleweight title with a knockout.

Kessler (40-1-0, 30 KOs), was sharp following his only defeat to Joe Calzaghe last November, in which the 29-year-old Dane was stripped of both the WBA and WBC titles.

After Sartison was sent to the canvas in the 11th round, referee Stanley Christodoulou stepped in and waved off the fight in the 12th, bringing the crowd at Brondby Hall to their feet for the native Viking Warrior.

Kessler next faces a mandatory defense of his title against German fighter Danilo Haussler.

Sartison (22-1-0, 14 KOs), a 28-year-old from Hamburg, Germany saw his perfect slate come to an end.
