NCAA Game Summary - Samford At Tennessee-Martin

(Sports Network) - Marquis Weddle poured in a game-high 39 points, as the fourth-seeded Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks defeated the fifth-seeded Samford Bulldogs, 101-94, in a triple-overtime thriller in the quarterfinal round of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament

Weddle connected on 9-of-21 tries from long distance for UTM (16-15), which will hook up with Austin Peay in the semifinals on Friday. Lester Hudson also had a big night with a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Djero Riedewald and Gerald Robinson scored 14 points apiece in the win.

Joe Ross Merritt made good on 6-of-13 three-pointers and he led Samford (14-15) with 29 points. Josh Davis logged a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Travis Peterson had 18 points and nine assists in the losing effort.

In the first period, the Skyhawks shot 51.9 percent from the field, including a 7-of-15 effort from three-point range, taking a 37-33 lead at halftime.

Merritt hit a three-pointer with 26 seconds left in regulation and that sent the game into overtime at 67-67.

In the first overtime, Peterson drained a three-point field goal with 25 seconds remaining that forced a second overtime at 77-77.

Merritt once again kept Samford's season alive, as his three-pointer at the buzzer in the second overtime produced a third extra session at 87-87.

The Skyhawks closed out the third overtime with a 6-0 spurt, as they captured the wild seven-point win.

Both teams bombed away from beyond the arc, as UTM went 14-of-37 and Samford 16-of-42.
