NCAA Game Summary - Jacksonville Vs. Belmont

(Sports Network) - Shane Dansby scored 16 points, and Belmont ripped Jacksonville, 79-61, to win the Atlantic Sun Tournament and gain an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Justin Hare and Matthew Dotson scored 14 points apiece for the top-seeded Bruins (25-8), who won the Atlantic Sun tourney for the third straight year. Alex Renfroe scored 10 points for Belmont, which will take a 13-game winning streak into the NCAA Tournament.

Aric Brooks scored 13 points to lead the second-seeded Dolphins (18-13), who were 1-8 all-time in the A-Sun tourney before this week. Lehmon Colbert scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Travis Cohn added nine points for Jacksonville, which had won five of six prior to the title game.

The Bruins pulled away in the first half with a 20-6 run. Andy Wicke drained back-to-back three-pointers on the run, and Renfroe added another trey. Jon House closed the push out with two free throws, boosting Belmont to a 29-14 lead with 7:51 left in the half.

The Bruins pushed their lead to 45-23 by the intermission.

Belmont kept pouring it on after the break. Jacksonville cut to within 21 points on an Evan Jefferson three, but the Bruins responded with a 14-5 push, capped by a Hare trey, and the Belmont lead reached 62-32 with 13:20 left in regulation.

The Bruins coasted to the 18-point victory, and another NCAA tourney bid, from there.

Game Notes:

Belmont beat Jacksonville by an 85-78 final on February 7 in their only meeting this season. The Bruins own a 10-3 lead in the all-time series...Jacksonville dominated the glass, outrebounding Belmont, 40-29...The Bruins shot 50.9 percent from the field.

Hasheem Thabeet scored 21 points, hauled in 18 rebounds and had four blocks to help the No. 2 Connecticut Huskies fend off the Buffalo Bulls, 68-64, at Alumni Arena. Jeff Adrien poured in 18 points, grabbed seven boards and doled out four assists for the Huskies (8-0), who will next play Stony Brook at home on December 15. Craig Austrie chipped in 10 points in the win. Rodney Pierce had a game-high 28 points for the Bulls (3-3), who will host Florida International on Saturday. Max Boudreau was the only other Bull in double figures, with 10 points.
