(Sports Network) - Nick Dials posted a game-high 21 points to lead the Akron Zips to a thrilling 65-60 overtime victory over the Florida State Seminoles in a first-round NIT tussle at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

Nate Linhart added 12 points and collected eight rebounds in the win for Akron (24-10), while Chris McKnight chipped in 10 points to go with six boards.

Uche Echefu scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace Florida State (19-15), while Ryan Reed tallied 14 points to go with seven rebounds for the Seminoles. Jason Rich hauled in 10 rebounds in the losing effort.

Florida State held Akron to 32.1 percent shooting from the field during the first period of play, but the Seminoles still went into intermission trailing the Zips, 27-26.

The Zips were unable to protect a 51-47 lead late in the second frame, missing a dunk and three free throws in the final 1:30 to allow the Seminoles to force overtime.

In the extra period, the Zips connected on all three of their shots from behind the arc to earn the five-point victory.

Akron advances to meet Massachusetts on Sunday.
