NCAA Game Summary - UC Santa Barbara At Long Beach State

POSTED: 10:31 pm EST March 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - UC Santa Barbara sank two free throws in the final second of overtime to notch a 70-68 win over the Long Beach State 49ers in Big West Conference at Walter Pyramid.

With the win, UCSB (23-7, 12-4 BWC) clinches the Big West regular-season crown and locks up the No. 1 seed for next week's conference tournament. Alex Harris led the team with 21 points, while Chris Devine finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. Ivan Elliott added 12 points, and James Powell scored 10 in the win.

Donovan Morris (20.6 ppg), coming off a 1-of-12 shooting performance Thursday night, paced Long Beach State (6-24, 3-13) with 33 points and seven rebounds. Cornel Williams had 14 points, and Greg Plater finished with 10.

The first half was slow paced, though Long Beach State managed to grab a 29-25 halftime lead after holding UCSB to 9-of-21 shooting from the floor.

Long Beach State erased a six-point deficit in the final 1:14 of the second half, with Morris sending the game into overtime on a three-pointer with nine seconds to play.

The 49ers had a couple of chances to take the lead in the final minute of overtime, but they could not find the bottom of the net. Devine missed the first of two free throws in the final second, but the 49ers were then whistled for a technical foul for calling a timeout that they did not have, and Harris made them pay by knocking down 1-of-2 foul shots. Devine then hit his second free throw.

The 49ers reserves accounted for just two points in the loss.
