NCAA Game Summary - Canisius At Rider

Albany, NY -- (Sports Network) - Jason Thompson tallied 18 points and 11 rebounds, leading the second-seeded Rider Broncs to a 75-71 victory over the 10th-seeded Canisius Golden Griffins in the quarterfinal round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament at the Times Union Center. Justin Robinson and Harris Mansell each scored 13 points for Rider (22-9), while Ryan Thompson finished with 11 points and seven rebounds. Greg Logins scored a game-high 20 points for Canisius (6-25), while Frank Turner also had a solid game with 19 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Bob Bevilacqua scored 15 in the loss. Rider shot 50 percent from the field and went 6-of-9 from the perimeter in the opening half, as the Broncs jumped out to a 41-29 halftime lead. But the Golden Griffins battled back in the second stanza, behind a 56.3- percent shooting effort from the floor. Turner knotted the score at 71 on a jumper with 1:36 to play, but Mansell responded with a trey at the other end to put the Broncs ahead for good. Rider will play Marist in the semifinals Sunday at 8 p.m.
