Southeast Missouri State (0-2) Vs. Centenary (1-2)

Saturday, November 18th, 6:30 p.m. (et).

GAME NOTES: Still searching for their first win of the new 2006-07 campaign, the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri State take their next shot against the Gents of Centenary as part of the Top of the World Classic from the Carlson Center this evening. After opening the season with a 92-52 blowout loss to Arkansas on the road, the Redhawks made the trip to Fairbanks and were crushed seven days later in a 78-51 decision at the hands of the Drake Bulldogs. As for the Gents, they opened play in this tournament with a 77-71 setback to Utah State last night, three days after picking up their first and only win of the new season thus far, a 91-85 victory over Texas State at home. With respect to the all- time series between these two schools on the hardwood, this is the first-ever meeting. These two programs will hit the floor once again on Sunday to finish up tournament play against Rhode Island and Alaska Fairbanks.

Michael Rembert tallied 11 points for the Redhawks on Friday night, representing the only player on the team to score in double figures. Rembert connected on 4-of-9 from the field before fouling out while Brandon Foust contributed with seven points and a team-best eight rebounds in the setback. The team turned the ball over 19 times and converted only 6-of-25 shots from three-point range. In the opener versus Arkansas eight days ago, the Redhawks shot only 22.6 percent from the field in the second half and 29.3 percent for the entire game, in addition to shooting only 6-of-29 from three-point range and a miserable 12-of-22 at the free-throw line. Clearly SEMO has a number of areas in which it needs to focus on in order to get better this year, but perhaps the worst part about the team's opener was 24 turnovers, while generating just seven assists.

Chase Adams came off the bench to offer up 17 points to lead four players in double figures last night, but that wasn't enough as Centenary bowed to USU by six points. Bryan Baumann added 14 points, Alexander Starr 13, while Larry Logan tacked on 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds. The Gents shot an impressive 15-of-16 at the free-throw line and 8-of-16 beyond the arc, but the squad managed only two offensive rebounds and 16 overall in the setback. Prior to the game on Friday night it was Starr who was leading the team in scoring with his 15.0 ppg, one of four players hitting four double figures thus far. Starr was doing more than simply putting the ball in the basket, he was also leading the team on the glass with eight and a half rebounds per outing, was first with four steals per game and second in assists at 3.5 per contest as well. While Starr was shooting 63.2 percent from the field, Logan was connecting on an incredible 78.6 percent of his attempts, en route to 14.5 ppg and five rebounds per game as well. Also hitting for double figures were Nick Stallings and Tyrone Hamilton with 12.0 and 11.5 ppg, respectively.

The Gents came very close to knocking off Utah State last night and with a little more effort on the glass the squad should be able to get the job done versus the Redhawks in this round.

Predicted Outcome

Centenary 73, Southeast Missouri State 61
