Toledo (9-18) At Central Michigan (13-15)
GAME NOTES: The Central Michigan Chippewas will try to continue their winning ways when they host the Toledo Rockets this afternoon in Mid-American Conference action at the Rose Arena. It has been a tough year for the Rockets, who have grabbed just nine wins on the year. However, the last time the team was on the floor, Toledo snapped a three-game losing skid with a 72-63 win over Eastern Michigan. Toledo has been dreadful on the road, losing all 15 of its matchups away from home this season. As for the Chippewas, they have won three of their last four games, including two in a row. The last time CMU was on the court, the team collected a 72-68 victory over Western Michigan, pushing its league mark to 8-7 on the year. In regard to the all-time series, the Rockets have a commanding, 51-26 edge over CMU. Earlier this season, Toledo collected its 10th consecutive win over the Chippewas with a 72-61 decision.
Points have been tough to come by for Toledo, as the team is averaging 59.1 ppg, while shooting a woeful 38.8 percent from the floor. Tyrone Kent is pacing the team with 17.0 ppg, despite shooting well below 40.0 percent from the floor. Jonathan Amos is the only other player netting double figures for Toledo, as the guard is posting 11.9 ppg on the year. Surprisingly the last time Toledo was on the floor, the Rockets grabbed a 72-63 victory over EMU. In the win, the Rockets shot 51.0 percent from the floor and made 16-of-20 attempts from the foul line. Kent led the way with 23 points, while Jerrah Young posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Amos and Ridley Johnson tallied 11 points apiece for the Rockets.
The only reliable source of offense that the Chippewas have had at their disposal has been Giordan Watson, who is leading the team with 16.3 ppg. Watson is also pacing the team with 123 assists and 52 steals. The second best scorer for CMU is Nate Minnoy, but the forward is chipping in only 9.1 ppg. The Chippewas put forth a surprising performance the last time they took the floor, defeating Western Michigan, 72-68. In the win, the team shot 42.1 percent from the floor, while also connecting on 10 three-point attempts. Robbie Harman led the way with 18 points, while Watson tallied 17 points, despite shooting just 3-of-11 from the floor. On the season, the Chippewas as a whole are averaging a mediocre 70.8 ppg, while shooting 43.8 percent from the floor.
Neither team has been outstanding offensively, but the Chippewas have a few more scoring option, plus the Rockets have yet to grab a win on the road.
