Las Vegas, NV -- (Sports Network) - Lee Cummard scored 18 points and doled out seven assists as 24th-ranked BYU rolled over Colorado State, 89-62, in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Conference Tournament.

Sam Burgess added 13 points, while Jonathan Tavernari and Chris Collinsworth chipped in 12 apiece for the top-seeded Cougars (26-6). BYU advanced to the MWC semifinals to play fourth-seeded San Diego State.

"We took good shots today," said Cummard. "I think the reason for that was because we were making extra passes and being unselfish. It's not very hard to shoot a wide-open shot because your teammate passes up a shot for a better shot."

Collinsworth added 10 rebounds and Trent Plaisted donated 11 points for BYU, which shot 65.2 percent in the contest, including 12-of-20 from beyond the arc.

Five players finished with nine points apiece for Colorado State (7-25), which had lost 17 in a row before beating Wyoming in the tourney's opening round.

"It was definitely worth another day, you know, to play another team," said CSU's Adam Nigon. "It's hard when you don't win a conference game and you get matched up with a team like BYU your second game after the tournament. We just can't put ourselves in a position like that."

The Cougars, who endured a shaky first half, quickly put the game out of reach after the break. It was 47-36 on a Plaisted layup early on, and after a Marcus Walker tip shot at the other end, BYU followed with an 18-2 run. It was mostly a three-point barrage, and was sealed by a Jimmer Fredette jumper from the right wing to make it 65-40 with 11:47 to play.

Colorado State never got close down the stretch, and shot just 40.4 percent in the contest. The Cougars scored 26 points off 13 Rams turnovers in the rout.

A surprising Colorado State squad more than held its own in the first half, edging on top courtesy of a Walker trey with less than five minutes gone. The three-point shot triggered an 11-4 push for the Rams, who did most of their damage from beyond the arc.

BYU, which trailed 19-14 near the midpoint, reeled off 14 of the next 21 points. Collinsworth's three-point shot at 6:19 gave the Cougars a 28-25 lead.

Colorado State fought back, but BYU closed strong and led 40-34 at intermission.
