NCAA Game Summary - Columbia At Penn

Saturday, March 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - A putback by Tyler Bernardini with 0.6 seconds remaining lifted the Penn Quakers to a 69-67 victory over the Columbia Lions in an Ivy League tilt at The Palestra.

Kevin Egee scored 16 points off the bench to lead the Quakers (12-18, 7-6 Ivy), while Bernardini tallied 15 points in the win. Brian Grandieri netted 11 points to go with six rebounds, and Andreas Schreiber chipped in 10 points for Penn.

Ben Nwachukwu posted a game-high 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace Columbia (14-15, 7-7), and John Baumann contributed 17 points in the losing effort.

The Lions shot just 40.7 percent from the floor during the first period, allowing Penn to take a slight 33-32 lead into the break.

The Quakers connected on a modest 42.9 percent of their attempts from the field during the second frame, but a 11-of-15 effort at the foul line kept the contest close enough to make way for Bernardini's heroics.

The Lions were guilty of 20 turnovers in the loss.
