NCAA Game Summary - St. Mary's-CA Vs. East Tennessee State

Honolulu, HI -- (Sports Network) - Diamon Simpson registered a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as the St. Mary's Gaels raced past East Tennessee State, 89-65, in the semifinal round of the 44th Annual Rainbow Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center. Carlin Hughes made good on 5-of-9 from three-point range for the Gaels (9-1) to also finish with 15 points in the team's second straight victory. Lucas Walker added 12 points in 16 minutes off the bench, Patrick Mills and Yusef Smith both logged 11 points and Omar Samhan 10 in the triumph. The Buccaneers (5-6), losers of three of their last four games, were paced by Kevin Tiggs and Courtney Pigram with 16 points apiece, with the latter shooting a woeful 5-of-20 from the floor, while Travis Strong chipped in 10 points off the bench. The Gaels made good on 56 percent of their field goal attempts in the first half, including 6-of-14 behind the three-point line, to take a 44-37 advantage at the break. In the second half ETSU simply fell apart with just 30.3 percent shooting from the floor, allowing St. Mary's to run away with the 24-point win. The Gaels finished the contest converting 55.4 percent from the floor and holding the Bucs to just 4-of-16 behind the three-point line. With the victory the Gaels will now play for the tournament title on Saturday night versus Ohio University which defeated Louisiana-Lafayette in the late game by a score of 74-68.
