NCAA Game Summary - Elon Vs. Chattanooga

POSTED: 3:41 am EDT March 9, 2008

(Sports Network) - Ola Atoyebi's putback basket with 20.9 seconds left proved to be the deciding bucket, as the seventh-seeded Elon Phoenix beat the second-seeded Chattanooga Mocs, 60-57, in the quarterfinal round of the Southern Conference Tournament at North Charleston Coliseum.

Atoyebi scored a game-high 13 points to lead Elon (13-18), while Brett James and Montell Watson netted 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Phoenix.

Nicchaeus Doaks scored 12 points to lead Chattanooga (18-13), while Marcus Watts and Khalil Hartwell tallied 10 points apiece in the losing effort.

The first half was highly competitive, and the Mocs owned a 31-28 advantage at intermission.

Elon battled back during the second stanza, trading baskets with the Mocs until Atoyebi's late bucket gave the club a three-point lead. The Phoenix then made a defensive stand, forcing back-to-back misses from beyond the arc by the Mocs.

The Mocs shot a miserable 34.7 percent from the field in the loss.

Elon will play the College of Charleston in the semifinals on Sunday.
