Friday, February 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - Jonathan Han scored 21 points and handed our seven assists to lead the Fairfield Stags to an 83-71 win over the Manhattan Jaspers in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Arena at Harbor Yards.

Anthony Johnson and Herbie Allen both contributed 16 points for the Stags (14-14, 11-6 MAAC) as they came up with their seventh straight victory. Mike Evanovich chipped in 11 points in just 15 minutes off the bench.

The Jaspers (11-17, 5-12), losers of two straight, were paced by Chris Smith and his 21 points, followed by Devon Austin with 14. Antoine Pearson and Darryl Crawford chipped in with 11 points apiece as well.

Both teams shot 12-of-30 from the field in the first half, but thanks to five baskets beyond the arc Manhattan managed a slim 32-29 advantage at the break.

In the second half Fairfield converted not just 6-of-9 behind the three-point line, but also a stellar 63 percent from the floor and 14-of-17 at the free- throw line to secure the 12-point win.

In a game that saw 12 ties and nine lead changes, the Stags knocked down 50.9 percent from the floor and 9-of-16 out on the perimeter.
