NCAA Game Summary - Fairfield Vs. Loyola-Maryland

Saturday, March 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - Gerald Brown scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Greyhounds of Loyola-Maryland to the 64-59 win over the Fairfield Stags in the quarterfinals of the 27th annual Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament at the Times Union Center.

Brett Harvey added 16 points and Michael Tuck 14 points and eight rebounds for the fourth-seeded Greyhounds (19-13).

The fifth-seeded Stags (14-16) were paced by Jonathan Han with 14 points and eight of the unit's 11 assists, followed by Warren Edney who tallied 11 points in the setback.

Fairfield staggered out of the gate in the first half, shooting a mere 7- of-23 from the field, allowing Loyola to post a 34-21 advantage at the break.

In the second half the Greyhounds made a total of just 10 field goals, allowing the Stags to battle back, but not quite all the way in the five-point decision.

Fairfield was beaten on the glass, 37-28, and ended up shooting just 11- of-20 at the free-throw line on the afternoon.

With the victory the Greyhounds have set themselves up for a meeting against top-seeded Siena in the semifinals on Sunday evening.
