Jarvis Taking Over At Florida Atlantic

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

(Sports Network) - Florida Atlantic has named Mike Jarvis as its new men's basketball coach.

Jarvis, who has a 364-201 record in 18-plus career seasons, becomes Florida Atlantic's third head coach in the last four years. He has previously coached Boston University, George Washington and St. John's and has guided teams to nine NCAA Tournament appearances, including the Sweet 16 twice and one Elite Eight.

As a formality, the FAU Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday to vote on Jarvis' hiring.

Jarvis will inherit a program that has compiled a 46-46 record over the last three seasons. The Owls are expected to return the team's top three scorers, Carlos Monroe, Paul Graham III and Carderro Nwoji for next season.

The 63-year-old Jarvis takes over for Rex Walters, who announced his resignation on April 14 to take the head coaching job at the University of San Francisco.

Walters, a former first-round pick of the 1993 NBA Draft, led the Owls to 31-33 record in his two seasons as the school's boss.
