Fordham (11-15) At Richmond (15-12)
GAME NOTES: An Atlantic 10 Conference bout is set to take place tonight in Virginia, as the Richmond Spiders host the Fordham Rams. The Rams come in sporting an 11-15 ledger, and they have dropped decisions in three of their last five outings, including two straight. The club's most recent setback, a 57-50 final against Dayton, gave Fordham a mere 5-9 tally in league play. As for Richmond, it comes into tonight's matchup carrying a 15-12 overall mark, and has posted victories in three of its last five outings. The Spiders suffered a heartbreaking 78-74 decision against Massachusetts on Saturday, however, to fall to 8-6 in A-10 action. Fordham leads the all-time series between the two programs by a 7-5 margin.
The Rams are averaging just 65.2 ppg this season, and they are shooting a mediocre 42.3 percent from the field. The club is led by Bryant Dunston, who tallies 15.8 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. He is joined in double figures by Marcus Stout and Brenton Butler, who contribute 15.2 and 11.0 ppg, respectively. Dunston moved into second place all-time on the Fordham scoring list with a game-high 18 points to pace the Rams during Saturday's seven-point loss to Dayton, but the club shot just 41.3 percent from the field during the contest and committed a game-high eight turnovers. Dunston also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds in the losing effort, while Butler added 11 points.
The Spiders shot just 43.5 percent from the field in Saturday's loss to UMass, and allowed the Minutemen to shoot 51.0 percent from the floor. The Spiders forced 15 turnovers, but were outrebounded by a 34-28 margin in the setback. David Gonzalvez scored 20 points to pace Richmond, while Kevin Anderson added 14 points to go with five assists. Dan Geroit and Oumar Sylla chipped in 12 points apiece for the Spiders. Geroit leads the club in both scoring (14.4 ppg) as well as rebounding (5.5 rpg) this season, while Gonzalvez tallies 12.4 ppg. Anderson joins the duo with a double-digit average of his own, chipping in 10.0 ppg.
The Rams have struggled a bit of late, and a tough road contest is hardly the way to get back on the positive side of the ledger. Give the advantage to the Spiders, who should be able to notch a victory with relative ease.
