Washington, DC -- (Sports Network) - George Washington University announced Thursday that senior guard Maureece Rice has been dismissed from the men's basketball team for breaking unspecified team rules.

The senior from Philadelphia had already served a pair of one-game suspensions this season -- one in November, the other in December -- both also for violating team rules.

The move is an unceremonious ending to an otherwise successful collegiate career for Rice. He was the team's leading scorer as a junior, when he averaged 15.8 points per game, and decided to withdraw his name from the NBA draft last June and return to GW for his senior year.

Rice's scoring dropped to 9.2 points per game this season for the Colonials, who lost at Charlotte Thursday night to fall to 9-16 on the season, 5-10 in the Atlantic 10.
