Georgia Southern (20-9) At College Of Charleston (12-16)
GAME NOTES: Southern Conference rivals are set to collide tonight in South Carolina, as the College of Charleston Cougars invite the Georgia Southern Eagles to John Kresse Arena. Georgia Southern will look to get back to its winning ways, as the Eagles had a six-game win streak snapped in an 80-72 final at Austin Peay last Saturday. The Eagles currently stand at 20-9 overall, and 13-5 in SoCon action. As for the College of Charleston, it has dropped three straight decisions to fall to 12-16 on the year, and 7-11 in league play. The club most recently slipped on Monday night at UNC Greensboro, 75-67. CofC owns a slight 19-17 advantage in terms of the all-time series between the two programs.
Georgia Southern shot just 38.6 percent from the field, including 6-of-23 from long range, during the eight-point loss at Austin Peay. The Eagles committed a high total of 20 turnovers, from which APSU tallied 22 points, negating a dominating 48-30 effort on the boards. Louis Graham scored 17 points to pace GSU, while Matthew Fields added 16 points to go with a game-high 14 rebounds in the losing effort. Julian Allen and Anthony Marshall chipped in 11 points apiece for the Eagles, and Dwayne Foreman netted 10 points while dishing out six assists. Graham averages 17.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game to lead the Eagles this season, while Willie Powers also owns a double-digit average with 11.3 ppg. Fields leads GSU in rebounds (7.2 rpg) and has chipped in a solid 9.2 ppg as well.
The College of Charleston is led this season by Tony White, Jr, who averages 13.7 ppg and owns a team-best 77 assists as well. Andrew Goudelock joins White in double figures, tallying 13.4 ppg, while Jermaine Johnson registers a team- high 8.8 rpg to go with 11.5 ppg. The Cougars shot a solid 50.0 percent from the floor during Monday's loss to UNCG, but the club allowed the Spartans to hit a red-hot 84.2 percent of their own attempts in the second half. Johnson scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead CofC, while Goudelock added 12 points in the losing effort. Donavan Monroe checked in off the bench to net 11 points for the Cougars.
Look for Georgia Southern to earn a satisfying road win, as the College of Charleston is in the midst of a slide.
