Towson (11-16) At Georgia State (8-19)
GAME NOTES: Colonial Athletic Association action will take place tonight when the Georgia State Panthers host the Towson Tigers at the GSU Sports Arena. Over the weekend, the Tigers found themselves in the win column after defeating High point, 73-72. However, it was just the second victory in the last seven games for Towson. Since defeating Samford on the road back in November, the Tigers have dropped their last 12 road contests. As for the Panthers, they are currently sitting at the bottom of the CAA standings with a horrible 4-12 ledger. This past Saturday the team stepped out of conference and collided with Jacksonville State. The result was an 85-78 victory in favor of Georgia State. However, it was just the second win in the month of February for the Panthers. In respects to the all-time series between the two schools, the Tigers have a 4-2 edge over Georgia State, and that includes Towson's thrilling, 58-57 victory over the Panthers earlier this season.
The Tigers lack a consistent go-to player this season, and that has been one of the reasons for the team's inconsistent play. Towson is averaging only 64.7 ppg, while shooting a mere 40.8 percent from the floor. Junior Hairston has been the top player for the Tigers, as the big man is producing 12.8 ppg to go along with 9.4 rpg and 47 blocks. Josh Thornton is the only other player averaging double figures for the Tigers, as the guard is chipping in 12.1 ppg, while shooting an impressive 43.4 percent from behind the arc. Surprisingly, though, the last time Towson was on the court, the team shot 53.2 percent en route to a one-point win over High Point. C.C. Williams led the way with 19 points and six assists, while Jonathan Pease and Hairston contributed 16 and 15 points, respectively.
The Panthers were strong this past weekend, as the team exploded for 85 points en route to a thrilling win over Jacksonville State. In the victory, Georgia State shot a strong 48.2 percent from the floor and made 22-of-30 attempts from the foul line. It was a shocking performance for Georgia State, which is averaging a pathetic 61.1 ppg, while shooting only 41.7 percent from the field. In the win over JSU, Michael Moynihan led the way with 16 points. As for the team's leading scorer, Leonard Mendez (16.0 ppg), he finished with 15 points and six rebounds. Kevin Lott tallied 13 points and seven boards for GSU, while Ousman Krubally and Deven Dickerson both chipped in 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Earlier this season the Tigers clawed their way to a one-point win over GSU at home. However, now the two teams will square off in Atlanta and with it being Senior Night for the Panthers, expect a big game from GSU.
