College Park, MD -- (Sports Network) - Greivis Vasquez tallied 21 points to lead the Maryland Terrapins to a 70-64 win over the Hampton Pirates in the semifinal round of the CBE Classic. Vasquez shot just 2-of-8 from three-point range on the night for the Terps (2-0) and turned the ball over eight times in the victory. James Gist had a big night for the home team as he recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the triumph as well. The Pirates (1-1) were paced by Rashad West who dropped in a game-high 23 points on the strength of 5-of-9 shooting beyond the arc. But like Vasquez for Maryland, West also played a bit loose with the ball, turning it over six times. Also scoring in double figures were Donte Harrison and Matthew Pilgrim with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Maryland shot only 3-of-12 behind the three-point line and 40 percent from the field overall in the first half, yet the squad still played well enough to post a 39-29 advantage at the break. In the second half Hampton managed to fight back, despite shooting only 1-of-9 beyond the arc, as the Terps opened the door with just a 10-of-20 effort at the charity stripe in the six-point victory. Maryland was charged with 22 turnovers, which the Pirates converted to 20 points, but the Terps were simply too strong in the paint, winning the battle of the boards by a count of 45-29.
