Thursday, March 6, 2008
Ruston, LA -- (Sports Network) - Dwayne Lathan's 23 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks spearheaded the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs to a 69-62 victory over the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in a Western Athletic Conference tilt at the Thomas Assembly Center. LaTech (5-23, 2-13 WAC) snapped a five-game losing streak behind excellent free throw shooting (30-of-35). Kyle Gibson sunk all 11 of his attempts from the stripe en route to logging 20 points, and Drew Washington netted 11 points in the winning cause. Matt Gibson's 22 points paced Hawaii (11-17, 7-8), who dropped its season-high fifth consecutive game. Bill Amis dropped 13 points, while Riley Luettgerodt added 10. Hawaii led by as many as seven points in the first half and took a slim 25-24 lead into the locker room at intermission. Though the Warriors shot well from the floor in the second stanza, the Bulldogs powered their way to the free throw line a whopping 29 times. The fact that they knocked down 24 of those attempts proved to be the difference in the seven-point triumph. The bench participation also played a part in LaTech's win, as the Bulldogs' subs outscored their counterparts by a lopsided 28-2 margin.
