NCAA Game Summary - Hawaii At New Mexico State

Sunday, March 9, 2008

(Sports Network) - The New Mexico State Aggies put on an offensive showcase in their home finale, as Justin Hawkins' 37 points and 10 rebounds highlighted an eye-popping 106-71 victory over the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors in a Western Athletic Conference blowout at the Pan American Center.

Hawkins sunk 14-of-25 from the field in his dominating effort, while four other Aggies (19-13, 12-4 WAC) logged double-figures in the victory. Fred Taylor recorded a near triple-double with 16 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Martin Iti posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Jahmar Young and Jonathan Gibson tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Hawaii (11-18, 7-9) was led by Riley Luettgerodt's 26 points and seven rebounds. Matt Gibson also got involved with 16 points and five assists in defeat.

Mew Mexico State was on fire from the get-go, hitting 19-of-30 from the floor, including 7-of-10 from three-point land, in a lopsided 50-29 advantage at the break.

The Aggies didn't need to do much in holding off the Rainbow Warriors, but the squad still shot a respectable 44.0 percent from the field in the 35-point drubbing.

NMSU controlled all facets of the game, as its 56-14 edge in the paint was its most telling statistic.
