Idaho Names Verlin Coach

Friday, March 21, 2008

(Sports Network) - The University of Idaho named Don Verlin its new men's basketball coach on Friday.

The move comes three days after the school fired men's basketball George Pfeifer.

Verlin has been a long-time assistant coach at Utah State.

"Don is a winner. He has been involved with winning programs his entire career," Idaho athletics director Rob Spear said. "He has been mentored by one of the most respected coaches in the game - Stew Morrill."

Verlin has been with Morrill for 16 years. That includes their time together at Colorado State before Morrill was hired at Utah State 10 seasons ago.

The Vandals went 12-48 in two seasons under Pfeifer, including an 8-21 mark this season, which ended with a loss in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference.
