Hoosiers' Gordon Declares For NBA Draft

Indianapolis, IN -- (Sports Network) - Indiana freshman Eric Gordon made it official, declaring for the NBA draft."I am doing this to compete at the highest level, not for the fame and the money," said Gordon of his decision at a press conference Monday afternoon. Gordon, who led the Big Ten in scoring, is the top freshman scorer in IU history, averaging 20.9 points this season. He also set a conference record for total points by a freshman with 669. The 6-foot-4 guard was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a unanimous first- team All-Big Ten selection. Gordon was also a finalist for the Wooden and Naismith Awards. "I'm committed as the Indiana coach to help him anyway I can," said new IU head coach Tom Crean. "Even though he is leaving early, there is no reason not to graduate down the road." The Hoosiers finished the season 25-8, but fell to Arkansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
