Saturday, February 23, 2008
Jacksonville, AL -- (Sports Network) - Michael Moynihan led five Georgia State players in double figures with 16 points, as the Panthers rallied for an 85-78 non-conference win over the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. Leonard Mendez chipped in with 15 points for Georgia State (8-19), while Kevin Lott tallied 13 points and seven rebounds. Ousman Krubally scored 12 off the bench, and Deven Dickerson finished with 10 points in the win. JSU's Jonathan Toles led all scorers with 23 points, but it was not enough to carry the Gamecocks (6-21) to what would have been their first three-game win streak of the season. DeAndre Bray chipped in with 15 points, while Jeremy Bynum scored 11, and Will Ginn finished with 10. The Gamecocks were able to distance themselves by knocking down 9-of-15 three- pointers in the first half and going 11-of-12 from the foul line, as they took a 50-40 lead into the break. But they cooled off in the second stanza, shooting just 8-of-21 from the floor. Meanwhile, the Panthers erased a 14-point second-half deficit with a 58-percent effort from the floor, and 13-of-15 shooting from the charity stripe. Both teams committed 15 turnovers in the game, yet Georgia State held a 23-8 edge in points off turnovers. The Panthers also out-rebounded the Gamecocks by a 39-25 margin.
