James Madison Men's Basketball Coach Dillard Resigns

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

(Sports Network) - James Madison University men's basketball coach Sherman Dillard announced his resignation on Sunday.

The Dukes struggled during the 2003-04 campaign, finishing with a 7-21 record, including a 3-15 mark in the Colonial Athletic Association. James Madison's season ended with a 44-41 loss to North Carolina-Wilmington in the first round of the conference tournament.

"Coach Dillard has been very dedicated to our program and to JMU's student- athletes and their success, both on and off the court," said athletics director Jeff Bourne. "He gave our team and program his total commitment. His efforts have been appreciated and valued; unfortunately, the team's performance is not where it needs to be."

Dillard joined James Madison for the 1997-98 season and his current contract ran through the 2004-05 campaign. In his seven years at the school, Dillard compiled a 93-106 record.
