Kentucky's Patterson Has Surgery

POSTED: 3:40 pm EDT April 2, 2008

(Sports Network) - Kentucky freshman forward Patrick Patterson underwent surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left ankle, and will have an expected recovery time of up to six months.

The surgery was performed by ankle specialist Dr. Robert Anderson last Friday in Charlotte, North Carolina. Patterson was diagnosed with the injury on February 29, and had to miss the rest of the Wildcats' season.

The Huntington, West Virginia high school product will be in a cast and on crutches for six weeks, and his overall recovery time will be between four to six months, depending on how the ankle heals.

Patterson averaged 16.4 points and 7.7 rebounds through 25 games this season, shooting better than 57 percent from the floor. Without Patterson in the lineup for postseason play, Kentucky (18-13) advanced to the NCAA Tournament, but lost a first-round contest to Marquette.

In additional injury news for the Kentucky men's basketball program, sophomore Jodie Meeks is considering the possibility of surgery for a sports hernia.
