BYU Stretches Home Streak To 36 With Win Over Lamar

Provo, UT -- (Sports Network) - Lee Cummard had 27 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out eight assists to lead 25th-ranked BYU over Lamar, 88-66, at the Marriott Center.Trent Plaisted dropped 22 points and snagged seven rebounds for the Cougars (8-2). That point total puts him at 1,007 for his career and makes the junior the 37th member of BYU's 1,000 point club. Jonathan Tavernari had 11 points, as BYU won its 36th straight at the Marriott Center. The leading scorer for the Cardinals (3-6) was Lamar Sanders, who accounted for 11 of his team's points. With 19:02 remaining in the game, Lamar pulled to within eight points at 42-34, but Brigham Young proved to be too powerful a foe as the Cougars pulled away. With 12:24 left in the game, BYU had increased its lead to 15 points as Plaisted made 1-of-2 foul shots for a 54-39 margin. The Cardinals pulled within 65-53 with 7 1/2 minutes remaining, but the Cougars pulled away for good with an ensuing 18-5 run. BYU came out strong as they opened the game on a 10-2 run. Despite being a heavy underdog, Lamar showed signs of life throughout the first-half, but wound up trailing at halftime, 42-30. Game Notes BYU has been ranked in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the '80-'81 and '81-82 season. The Cougars hold a 133-56 record as a ranked team.
