Saturday, December 8, 2007
Nashville, TN -- (Sports Network) - Freshman center A.J. Ogilvy scored 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, helping 23rd-ranked Vanderbilt to defeat crosstown rival Lipscomb, 90-67, at Memorial Gym. Shan Foster added 21 points, partially on 5-of-7 three-point shooting, and Alex Gordon chipped in 12. Ross Neltner scored nine points and had six boards, as the Commodores (9-0) stayed undefeated with the win. Thomas Pfaff scored 15 and collected eight rebounds for Lipscomb (4-6), which had a three-game winning streak snapped. Eddie Ard led the Bisons with 18 points, and no other player scored more than six for Lipscomb. Vanderbilt went on a 14-0 run early in the game to take control. Ogilvy had six points, including a run-capping dunk to make the score 18-4. Lipscomb got within seven when Devon Seaford's three with 7:21 left in the half trimmed the Commodores' lead to 23-16. But Vanderbilt surged back ahead, and it took a layup from Lipscomb's Adnan Hodzic with 21 seconds on the clock to make the halftime score 36-25. In the second half, Lipscomb stayed within a dozen points until Pfaff and Ard made back-to-back buckets for a 54-46 score. That was, though, as close as the Bisons came to Vanderbilt, as the Commodores went on a 14-2 run, which Gordon finished with a three. With 8:24 left, Vanderbilt was ahead 68-48, and kept drawing it out from there.Game Notes:Vanderbilt shot 49.2 percent from the field...Lipscomb made 37.5 percent...Gordon made 4-of-6 from beyond the arc...Vanderbilt next plays at DePaul on Wednesday, but then plays six straight home games.
