NCAA Game Summary - Loyola-Chicago Vs. Illinois-Chicago

Saturday, March 8, 2008

(Sports Network) - In second round action of the Horizon League Tournament, the fourth-seeded Illinois-Chicago Flames took care of rival and eighth-seeded Loyola-Chicago, 60-49 behind Josh Mayo's 17 points.

Robert Kreps chipped in 14 points for the Flames (18-14), who hit an astounding 23-of-26 from the free throw line.

Tracy Robinson led the Ramblers (12-19) in defeat with 15 points, while Andy Polka and Ross Forman netted 10 points apiece.

Both teams struggled offensively in the first half, as Loyola led 21-19 at the break by holding UIC to just seven field goals.

The Flames jumped back into the lead behind a 12-3 run early in the second stanza, as the squad made all 20 of their free throw attempts down the stretch in the 11-point conquest.

A major factor in the win was the Flames' 36-20 edge on the boards. Now, Illinois-Chicago has the unenviable task of taking on nationally-ranked and top-seeded Butler in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
