POSTED: 4:02 pm EST February 17, 2007

(Sports Network) - Bennet Davis scored a game-high 19 points as the Northeastern Huskies defeated the Maine Black Bears, 71-61 in a non-conference matchup at Matthews Arena.

Davis connected on 9-of-11 free throws and pulled down five rebounds for the Huskies (10-18). Bobby Kelly added 17 points, while Adrian Martinez chipped in with 11.

Kevin Reed led the Black Bears (11-16) with 14 points and eight rebounds. Chris Bruff had 12 points and five rebounds, while Mark Socoby contributed 11 points in the loss.

Maine struggled from the field, shooting just 28.1 percent in the first half, which paved the way for Northeastern to grab a 35-19 halftime lead.

Northeastern answered every Maine spurt in the second stanza, and the Huskies scored nine points from the foul line in the final minute-and-a-half to ice the win.

The Black Bears were held to 36.1-percent shooting en route to their fourth straight loss.
