Miami-Florida Blasts North Carolina A&T To Stay Undefeated

POSTED: 5:42 pm EST December 23, 2007

(Sports Network) - Jack McClinton scored 17 points and Raymond Hicks was a perfect 7-of-7 from the field for another 16, as 22nd- ranked Miami-Florida rolled to a 95-64 victory over North Carolina A&T at the BankUnited Center.

James Dews also scored 16 and Dwayne Collins chipped in 12 for the Hurricanes (12-0), who have already matched their win total from last season when they finished 12-20.

"We just want to win games," said Miami head coach Frank Haith. "We only won 12 games last year. I don't care how we get them."

Austin Ewing scored 14 points and Steven Rush added 13 for North Carolina A&T (5-7), which has lost three in a row.

The Hurricanes took any suspense out of the game early, scoring the first 17 points to make it a rout. Brian Asbury picked up the first four and a Hicks layup made it 17-0 before Rush drilled a three-pointer for the first Aggie points just under six minutes into the contest.

NC A&T added the next five points to pull within nine and, after a trade of baskets, an 11-0 run expanded Miami's advantage to 30-10. The cushion reached 24 before the Hurricanes settled for a 45-25 lead at the break.

McClinton scored 12 points in the opening 20 minutes for Miami, which shot 53.1 percent in the first half and held NC A&T to just 36 percent from the field.

The Aggies got as close as 15 early in the second half, but the Hurricanes soon pulled away again and built a 29-point cushion at 68-39 on a three by Dews with just over 12 minutes to play.

Miami led by as many as 35 and cruised to the finish. The Hurricanes shot a season-high 58.1 percent and held the Aggies to just 40.4 percent overall.

"I was very pleased with how we played," Haith added. "We came in and weren't distracted. It's a tough time of year. A lot of our guys have plane tickets this evening and they're thinking about going home. I'm proud of the way they stayed focused."

Game Notes

North Carolina A&T made just 10-of-22 free throws and committed 22 turnovers that led to 25 Miami points...The Hurricanes have won all three meetings with the Aggies, including an 87-62 triumph two years ago in Coral Gables.
