GAME NOTES: The 25th-ranked and top-seeded Davidson Wildcats will try to continue their winning ways this evening, as they take on the fifth-seeded UNC Greensboro Spartans in the semifinal round of the Southern Conference Tournament. The winner of this game will advance to the finals against either Elon or the College of Charleston on Monday. After completing their third undefeated regular season campaign, the Wildcats opened tourney play with an 82-49 trouncing of eighth-seeded Wofford in the quarterfinals on Saturday. With the outcome, Davidson extended its winning streak to a nation-best 20 games and it also captured its 34th straight victory against SoCon foes. The Wildcats have won the last two SoCon Tournament's and they are in search of their 10th title in this event. As for UNCG, it also got tourney play underway on Saturday, capturing a 63-46 win over fourth-seeded Appalachian State. It was the fifth victory in a row for the Spartans, who improved to 10-9 all-time in this event. Davidson swept the regular-season series with UNCG, taking an 83-78 decision on the road on February 13th, and then a 75-66 decision at home six days later.

The Spartans clamped down on defense on Saturday, as they held Appalachian State to a dismal 35.1 percent shooting effort in a 63-46 victory. UNCG made good on 43.1 percent of its field goal and it also held a 13-2 advantage in free-throw points. Kyle Hines led the charge with his 14th double-double of the season that consisted of 20 points and 10 rebounds. For the season, Hines has been tremendous for the Spartans, averaging a team-high 19.5 ppg and a SoCon-leading 9.1 rpg. His 55 steals also top the roster. Kevin Oleksiak ranks second with 11.7 ppg and 3.3 apg, and Mikko Koivisto chips in with 11.0 ppg on 44.8 percent shooting from three-point range. Overall, the Spartans are turning in 71.4 ppg behind 45.9 percent shooting from the field.

The Wildcats hit on 13-of-29 attempts from beyond the arc, as they coasted past Wofford on Saturday. The team controlled the boards, 50-36, and held Wofford to a horrific 28.1 percent shooting effort from the field. Stephen Curry, the SoCon Player of the Year, led the way with 19 points on 5-of-10 three-pointers, while Jason Richards had 13 points and seven helpers. For the season, Curry leads all SoCo players in scoring with 25.1 ppg and he is shooting 43.9 percent from long range. Richards has formed a nice tandem with Curry and he chips in 13.0 ppg, to go with a nation-best 8.0 apg. The Wildcats, as a team, are outscoring their foes by 15.3 ppg and they are doing so on an efficient 47.1 percent shooting from the floor.

Davidson is on a historic run and it should be able to continue its march with Curry and Richards leading the way this evening.
