NCAA Game Summary - Oregon Vs. Washington State

Friday, March 14, 2008

(Sports Network) - Derrick Low scored 18 points as 21st-ranked Washington State moved into the semifinals of the Pac-10 Tournament with a 75-70 win over Oregon, ending the Ducks chance to repeat as champions.

Taylor Rochestie added 16 points for the Cougars (24-7), who nearly blew a 20- point lead before holding on in the closing minutes. Kyle Weaver tallied 14 points and Robbie Cowgill 12 for third-seeded Washington State, which will face Stanford in Friday's semifinals.

Malik Hairston and Tajuan Porter each scored 20 for the Ducks (18-13), who also got 11 points from Maarty Leunen.

Porter's three-pointer pulled the Ducks within 68-64 with nearly 1 1/2 minutes left, but it was an uphill battle for Oregon, and with Nikola Koprivica making four foul shots down the stretch, the Cougars were able to close out the contest.

After trailing by as many as 17 points in the second half, the Ducks couldn't get closer than four in the final minutes. Hairston's layup had the Ducks within 74-70 with 13.7 seconds left, but Rochestie went 1-of-2 from the foul line, and Porter and Leunen missed shots in the closing seconds.

Eight consecutive Washington State points moved its lead to 16-5, with Cowgill's jam capping the spurt. Koprivica's free throw in the last minute of the half extended the margin to 42-22, but Oregon had the final five points of the period.

Washington State's last 17-point lead was 54-37 following an Aron Baynes layup with under 14 minutes left, but Oregon responded with an ensuing 14-4 burst.
