Sacramento, CA -- (Sports Network) - The Sacramento State athletic department announced on Friday that the contract of head men's basketball coach Jerome Jenkins will not be renewed.

In eight seasons with Sacramento State, Jenkins has posted a record of 80-147, with four appearances in the Big Sky Conference Tournament, including trips to the semifinals in 2003 and 2006.

"I believe a change in leadership is necessary to make the program more competitive in the Big Sky Conference and to create a synergy between the basketball program and the greater Sacramento community," said Sacramento State Director of Athletics Terry Wanless. "We appreciate the years Jerome has given to Hornet basketball."

This past season the Hornets had their worst season under Jenkins, going 4-24 overall and 2-14 in the Big Sky Conference.
