Sacramento, CA -- (Sports Network) - Sacramento State has named Brian Katz its new men's basketball coach.Katz, a 1980 Sacramento State graduate and a native of Sacramento, becomes the 13th head coach in the program's history. He has spent the past 15 seasons as the head coach on the junior college level at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton, where he posted a record of 348-138. "We selected Brian because he fits the four strengths we were looking for in a new coach," said athletic director Terry Wanless. "He is a strong recruiter, a very good teacher of the game, he develops his players on and off the court, and he will connect the basketball program with the community. He has great ties to Sacramento, and that is very important to our program." Katz guided San Joaquin Delta College to 14 playoff appearances and six conference championships. Three of those titles came in the last four seasons, during which the team compiled a record of 108-26. Sacramento State needed a replacement for Jerome Jenkins, who had a record of 80-147 in eight years with the school. The Hornets had their worst season under Jenkins in 2007-08 with a mark of just 4-24 overall and 2-14 in the Big Sky Conference.
