NCAA Game Summary - Savannah State At Marquette

(Sports Network) - Lazar Hayward scored 12 points and grabbed eight boards to lead 12th-ranked Marquette over Savannah State, 77-37.

Dominic James also dropped 12 points for the Golden Eagles (10-1).

Dan Fitzgerald chipped in with 11 points, four rebounds, and four steals off the bench for Marquette, who will host Providence on January 3.

Curtis Brown led Savannah State (7-11) with nine points. He didn't get much help, as the next leading scorer for the Tigers was Chris Linton, with six points. The Tigers will travel to College Park to face Maryland on January 2.

Patrick Hardy drained a three-pointer to start the game and put Savannah State up 3-0.

Marquette answered with a 13-0 run, capped by a Hayward jumper with 16:08 left that put the Golden Eagles up with all the insurance they would need.

Lawrence Blackledge hit a jumper with 12:05 remaining that set off a 17-0 Golden Eagles run, ending with Marquette ahead 36-11 with 7:14 remaining in the half.

The Golden Eagles were soaring high at halftime, up 46-19.

The second half was all Marquette, as the Golden Eagles never held a lead fewer than 28 points and were ahead by as many as 40.

Game Notes:

The Golden Eagles are now 3-0 all time against the Tigers, with the previous matchup being a 69-51 Marquette victory on December 30, 2006...Marquette had 13 players score in the victory, while Savannah State only had eight.
