Monday, March 17, 2008

(Sports Network) - The University of Toledo announced on Monday that they have fired men's basketball coach Stan Joplin.

"I want to thank Stan Joplin for his years of dedicated service to the University of Toledo as a player, assistant coach and as a head coach," said athletic director Mike O'Brien.

"Stan can be proud of many of his team's accomplishments in the past 12 years, both on the court and in the classroom. However, I feel it was time for the men's basketball program to move in a new direction."

A 1979 graduate of Toledo, Joplin led his alma mater to a 203-155 mark in his during his lengthy tenure. He led the school to four NIT bids (1999, 2001, 2004, 2007), a berth in the 2006 MAC tournament final, as well as a MAC regular-season title in 2007.
