GAME NOTES: The CBI resumes tonight, as the Utah Runnin' Utes duel with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the quarterfinal round at the Reynolds Center. The winner of this bout will move on to the semifinals on Wednesday against an opponent still to be determined. The Utes earned their spot in this game by downing Texas-El Paso, 81-69, in the first round last Wednesday. It was the first postseason victory since 2004-05 for Utah, which snapped a three-game road losing streak in the process. As for Tulsa, it hosted its first round game and prevailed over Miami-Ohio by a final of 61-45. The win was the fifth in the last six outings for the Hurricane, which improved to a healthy 14-2 at home for the season. Tonight's contest marks the sixth all-time meeting between Tulsa and Utah, with the Utes holding a 4-1 edge in the series. Utah has won the past four encounters with the Hurricane, including the last three while the two programs were members of the Western Athletic Conference.

Utah held UTEP to a dismal 34.8 percent shooting effort from the field, as it captured an 81-69 triumph in the first round of this event last week. The Utes connected on just 39.7 percent of their field goal tries, but they went 29- of-33 at the foul line and that made the difference. Johnnie Bryant led the way with 17 points, while Luke Nevill notched a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. For the season, Nevill top the roster in both scoring (15.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.7 rpg) and he is also shooting 54.2 percent from the field. Bryant has provided a nice complement to Nevill with 14.0 ppg and he is knocking down 44.0 percent of his chances from three-point range and 91.9 percent at the charity stripe. As a team, the Utes are shooting 39.4 percent from downtown and 76.1 percent at the foul line for an average of 68.8 ppg.

The Hurricane knocked down 46.9 percent of their tries from the floor and made five more three-pointers than Miami, as it posted a 61-45 win in the first round of the tourney last week. Tulsa also clamped down on defense, limiting Miami to just a 35.7 percent shooting performance from the floor. Brett McDade headed the charge with 22 points and six helpers, while Ben Uzoh had 16 points. Calvin Walls added 10 points and eight boards, and seven-foot Jerome Jordan snared a team-high 12 caroms. For the season, Uzoh leads the Hurricane in scoring with 15.3 ppg and he is also collecting 5.5 rpg. Jordan turns in 10.0 ppg and a team-best 7.4 rpg, and he is also an elite shot blocker, racking up 123 for the season. Overall, Tulsa is netting 70.2 ppg this season, while outrebounding its foes by 5.4 rpg.

Both teams appear to be pretty evenly matched, so go with Tulsa, which has been highly successful on its home floor this season.

Predicted Outcome

Tulsa 66, Utah 59
