Tuesday, March 25, 2008
Tulsa, OK -- (Sports Network) - Ben Uzoh tallied a game-high 22 points as he led the Tulsa Golden Hurricane to a 69-60 win over the Utah Runnin' Utes in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Also scoring in double figures for the Golden Hurricane (22-13) were Ray Reese and Jerome Jordan with 16 and 12 points, respectively. With the victory Tulsa heads to the semifinals of the tourney versus Bradley on Wednesday. The Utes (18-15) were paced by Johnnie Bryant with 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting behind the three-point line off the bench, followed by Luke Nevill who dropped in 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the setback. Neither team shot the ball well from the field in the first half, but while Utah was making a mere 6-of-23 from the floor in the frame, Tulsa was converting all 17 chances at the free-throw line to take a 35-20 advantage at the break. In the second half the Utes came back with a more respectable 44.8 percent from the floor, but it proved to be too little, too late in the nine-point decision. Despite making just 4-of-15 shooting from three-point range, the Hurricane survived with a 29-15 scoring edge at the charity stripe on the night.
