Villanova's Drummond Out For Remainder Of NCAA Tournament

Monday, March 24, 2008

(Sports Network) - Villanova sophomore center Casiem Drummond fractured his right ankle in the Wildcats' 84-72 victory over Siena in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, and he will miss the remainder of the season.

Drummond is scheduled to undergo surgery to insert a screw into his ankle at Bryn Mawr Hospital on Tuesday. The sophomore from East Orange, New Jersey averaged 4.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game this season.

"We are very disappointed for Casiem," said Villanova head coach Jay Wright. "He has struggled with injuries all season and now he has incurred a new one. We are proud of his toughness and commitment. We all will support him in overcoming this latest injury."

The 12th-seeded Wildcats will square off against Midwest top seed Kansas in the Sweet 16 on Friday night after knocking off Clemson and Siena to reach the regional semifinals.
