Lexington, VA -- (Sports Network) - Virginia Military Institute head basketball coach Duggar Baucom agreed to a contract extension through the 2011 season, athletic director Donny White announced Monday.Baucom has been at VMI since April 2005, and had a four-year contract through 2009. But the Keydets kept Baucom in the fold with a deal that includes a salary raise. In two seasons, Baucom has led VMI to a 21-39 record (9-24 Big South Conference). In 2006-07, the Keydets won the most games (14) they have in nine years, and advanced to the Big South Tournament's championship game. Under Baucom, that team was the NCAA Division I leader in points per game (100.9), 3-point field goals per game (13.4), and steals per game (13.4). "I am extremely happy that Duggar Baucom has accepted our offer for a contact extension," White said. "Under his leadership, our team has made great strides and I feel that he can make us a consistent winner." This season, Baucom and the Keydets will attempt to achieve a winning record for the first time since 1997-98 when VMI went 14-13. Baucom will have four returning starters from last season's team, including senior Reggie Williams, who averaged 28.1 points per game in 2006-07.
