Los Angeles, CA -- (Sports Network) - Patrick Christopher dropped in a game-best 25 points, as the ninth-seeded California Golden Bears upended the eighth- seeded Washington Huskies, 84-81, in the opening round of the Pac-10 Tournament at the Staples Center. Christopher finished the game 10-of-20 from the floor, as the Bears (16-14) advance to face top-seeded UCLA in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Ryan Anderson notched a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while Jerome Randle contributes 14 points in the win. Quincy Pondexter paced Washington (16-16) in defeat with 23 points and nine rebounds. Ryan Appleby made 4-of-10 three-pointers for his 12 points, and Artem Wallace recorded 11 points and nine boards in the setback. The Huskies played without their leading scorer (17.6 ppg) and rebounder (11.5 rpg) Jon Brockman, who sat out with a sprained ankle suffered in the team's regular- season finale. Washington took a 40-38 lead to the break, as it held Cal to a lackluster 32.4 percent shooting from the field over the first 20 minutes of action. The Bears used a 23-4 run in the second half to overcome the Huskies for the three-point victory. Washington had a chance to send the game into overtime, but Venoy Overton could not get off a clean three-point attempt in the closing seconds. Cal, which snapped a five-game slide, held a 43-34 edge on the boards and a 25-15 advantage in free-throw points.
