Wednesday, March 12, 2008
Portland, OR -- (Sports Network) - Kyle Landry scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks to a 75-70 win over the Weber State Wildcats in the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference Tournament at the Rose Garden. Landry converted 9-of-13 shots at the free-throw line and cleared seven rebounds for second seed NAU (21-10), which will now take on top-seeded Portland State in the title game on Wednesday night. The third-seeded Wildcats (16-14) were paced by Daviin Davis who tallied 19 points, followed by Dezmon Harris with 15. Arturas Valeika registered a double- double with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds as WSU failed to defend the tournament title it claimed a year ago when it defeated this same NAU program. The Lumberjacks made it to the free-throw line just once in the first half, but the squad made good on 7-of-9 shots behind the three-point line and 56 percent from the floor overall to claim a 36-34 advantage at the break. In the second half NAU continued to shoot the ball extremely well, converting field goals at a 61.1 percent clip, en route to the five-point victory. In a game that saw eight ties and 11 lead changes, the Lumberjacks knocked down not only 58.1 percent from the field but also a stellar 11-of-15 behind the three-point line in the triumph.
